Dick's sense of humor never seems to escape him throughout the entire book. His wit is one of his most noticeable and admirable characteristics, one that sparks interest in many people. I thought it was funny and clever how Dick referred to his old, torn, and poorly sized clothes as the jacket of General Washington and pants of Napoleon. Dick takes bad situations and makes them comical. He rarely gets down on himself. This is why Dick has the ability to remain motivated and hard working.
The second picture depicts a New York scene where an old, run down apartment building is overshadowed by large, New York City skyscrapers. When I saw this photo, I though of Dick's situation when he lived in poverty. It is amazing how the extremely rich can live in such close proximity with the extremely poor. Each day when Dick awoke and left his box, he could literally step out of the ally or wherever he was sleeping and find a costumer.
